Autocar Votes Yaris Best Small Car For First Car Buyers
Toyota's Yaris has been named the best small car for first-time buyers in a review by one of the world's leading motoring journals.
British magazine Autocar said pre-owned Yaris models are "supremely practical".
"The Yaris is undoubtedly the best small car a first-time driver can buy," Autocar said in an article naming its 50 Greatest Used Cars.
The magazine commended the fuel economy, reliability, driving position, dashboard layout, front-seat space and value of the Yaris.
It said there is "a lot to like and even love" about the car, including that it "won't break down" and sells for "just a few grand".
First-generation Yaris was sold locally as the Toyota Echo and became the market leader in its class.
Second-generation Yaris, launched in October 2005, was the best-selling car in its segment in Australia over its six years in new-car showrooms.
Australian motorists bought a combined total of more than 220,000 first (Echo) and second-generation Yaris cars - approximately 50,000 ahead of any other vehicle in the segment.
Third-generation Yaris was launched in Australia in late October last year, building on the car's "big space in a compact car" heritage.
The latest Yaris retains small-car dimensions and a tight turning circle while offering the qualities expected in a larger car.
The new car is continuing the popularity of the Yaris brand: it is leading its segment this year with sales up 20.7 per cent to 15,465 compared with 12,815 at the same stage last year.
Toyota recently introduced a certified used-car program with an additional 12-months/50,000km warranty on pre-owned Toyota vehicles, including Yaris.
Buyers receive a detailed car history and 12 months of roadside assistance on certified used cars that are less than four years old, have travelled fewer than 100,000km and have passed a minimum 90-point inspection.
Yaris, like all new Toyota vehicles, is covered by the capped-price servicing plan, Toyota Service Advantage, with up to six scheduled services at just $130 each*.
Second-generation Yaris sedans and hatches that are under three years old and with less than 60,000km on the clock may still be covered by Toyota Service Advantage.
